I cannot even begin to tell you how much I have learned from Mary and her husband, Mike. Reading this book was probably one of the best things I could have done for my walk with God. Mary has such a kind and gentle heart, which comes across on every page, but at the same time, she is full of boldness in her faith, which was very inspiring to me. This can be a very real and scary subject for a lot of people, but Mary gives a lot of serious information in a very easy to read, easy to understand way, while giving her own amazing testimony, and somehow, making it all seem a lot less scary because of the power we have through Jesus. Please read this book! Even if you don't think there are any witches in your own life, you're probably wrong! But this book talks about much more than just witches - it discusses all kind of doors a person might have open to the enemy, making it an indispensable resource. I have already recommended this book to several people in my life. I learned so much from this, and have already been blessed in such a huge way by applying what I learned in my own life.

The lines of today's Holy and profane are blurred. There are good lies and bad lies. Good and bad witches (Tolkien: Lord of the Rings). Our discernment is bombarded and exhausted. The world is gone crazy and many are too busy to notice. Sadly the Church is tired, asleep or doesn't really care what is happening all around them. This book is a wonderful place to begin the "paradigm shift".

Very interesting topic, but could use a little more information in it for those not already familiar with the subject matter. The blog site listed in the book is excellent and fleshes out much additional information! I highly recommend this to any Bible scholar who is looking for more than is commonly taught on the occult in the main stream church situation. The update on the book flows better and rounds out the facts more fully.

I am a Christian living amidst a large coven of witches, and needed information on the finer points of how to deal with this type of paganism. For example, the Bible instructs us to "love our neighbor as ourselves," but did this mean I had to allow witches into my home merely to be nice?? Mary Lou Lake's book provides you the answers to those types of questions, AND MUCH MORE. In fact, I share with Mary many of the experiences she had with her local witches to the degree it is downright eerie. Seeing UFOs and having airplanes fly low over my home are but 2 examples we both have experienced. Yes, UFOs are witchcraft. In fact, on many of the occasions when I saw UFOs I was unwittingly in the presence of witches and I have NO doubt my witch neighbors were "conjuring up" these UFOs for me to see. Though I've read biographies of FORMER witches looking for this type of information, I had not found it in their books. Mary Lou Lake gives not only examples of her experiences, but also offers sound BIBLICAL DOCTRINE on how to manage the witchcraft being directed to Christians. I have found no other book even remotely similar or covering the topics Mary Lou does, as well as offering the answers. In this, Mary Lou's book is 100% unique. Therefore, if you've had bizarre, inexplicable incidents happen to you over the course of your life, you might want to consider that much of it was witchcraft.My mother was married to 2 men (though not my father) who were high level freemasons and not at any time in her life did she realize her husbands were practicing "the craft," which is what witchcraft is called in freemasonry. Strange events from my childhood 50 years ago are only NOW making sense knowing that witchcraft was involved. It's only been in the last 2 years that I've learned freemasonry is satanism and witchcraft combined, before believing freemasonry was simply a "civic" organization. The the lower degrees of freemasonry may still believe that, it is anything BUT CIVIC.In summary, I can't type enough positive accolades about Mary Lou's book. It has not only been a blessing to me, but has helped me in my walk with God and Jesus Christ. And even if you don't believe you HAVE YET been targeted by witches or witchcraft, in theses End Times, I consider it crucial to know what Satan's children are capable of and how to combat it, for we ALL will be seeing strange things/events and need to know how to fight them with Biblical knowledge. Mary Lou's book provides much of that knowledge.Lastly, have you heard of the CERN reactor in Switzerland? Many Christians believe this has been built solely to open portals by which demons can enter our dimension and be seen in our realm. I think they may be right. If true, Mary Lou's book is ever more valuable to read and learn.

What witches don't want Christians to know and I still don't know. I've skimmed over most the book trying to find something worth reading. I finally put it down. Too much rambling. And if I read one more "I believe" I'll scream. I just can't get into the book I disagree with going back into the law and some other things. I am getting a whole lot more out of John Ramerizes book Armed and Dangerous. He was a satanist and knows what is for real. Mary Lou's book seems to me to be mostly paranoia and like I said rambling. Witches are real the occult is real and maybe this book is for people new to the reality of the occult. I may try reading it again and if I get something out of it I'll update and give it more stars. At this point I feel I wasted my $.

Fascinating read! I would've never had a clue about such things going on! But now that I know, I can see it all around us, and these kind of mind control projects have been going on for 50-60 years! We NEED to know it! This book explains a LOT!

I'm sorry I put off reading this for as long as I did. I wanted to savor it for as long as I could, but there is no putting this book down once you pick it up. Written during WWII in Liverpool and London, you get the sense of what it was like to be surrounded in destruction and turmoil, as a woman coming of age, and experiencing a forbidden love. Julianne is quite the debutante, but has a down to earth warmth about her. She's a loving, caring, and quite funny young woman, growing up in a privileged, affluent home. One wouldn't expect this type of personality, but I loved her and felt drawn to her from the first page.She feels very deeply, and has a giving nature about her, which is why the nursing field was made for her. I believe we have all at least pondered the idea of being in love with someone that was forbidden to be loved, with someone that would go against all our morals, and against our family wishes. That's what makes it that much more powerful. Kyle was that forbidden love for Julianne, and I fell hard and fast for this tremendously, devoted man. He is a hard worker, has a sweet soul, and in my minds eye, a very handsome, funny, sexy young man. I was saddened by the turn of events, and the lesson learned in this historical novel. I cried, I laughed, I held my breath at times, and forced my eyes to move faster than humanly possible so I could finally learn what happens to all the fantastically written characters in this debut novel. The lesson I learned, and needed to hear, is that, "Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall" and vanity will be your downfall. I had to re-read the last few pages over and over again because I didn't want it to end, and yet couldn't believe the end!! Took my breath away...... and I'm a hard customer to please!

This was a book that was hard to put down. This is a love story between a young woman, born to a well-to-do family in England who falls hopelessly in love with a young gardener with Scottish heritage who has dreams of becoming a Catholic priest. The family is totally against any kind of personal relationship between the pair for many reasons. The author has written the love story with compassion and empathy, in a way that is interesting and not erotic. The time period is pre-WWII, and during the war and after the war with intriguing twists and turns. It is a story I shall remember and recommend to my many friends who love to read this genre of historic fiction that includes a wonderful love story.

The Memory of Us was written by debut author Camille DiMaio. One of the first scenes involves protagonist Julianne visiting her twin brother at the institution that serves as his home. Julianne is not supposed to know that her brother exists; not only is she aware of him, she also makes regular clandestine visits to spend time with him. This defiance of convention and of parental wishes sets the tone for the rest of the book.It is at Bootle House that Julianne first encounters Kyle McCarthy. Julianne is accustomed to moving in the upper echelons of Liverpool society, and Kyle is completely like any of the other boys that she knows. Not only is he an Irish Catholic, but he also attends a seminary and intends to become a priest.These two very different young people are drawn to each other. Even if they could manage to transcend the boundaries of socioeconomics and religion (she is Protestant), it is the late 1930s, and all signs point to a war on the European continent.The Memory of Us is an incredible book, and a testament to the things that can happen to people torn apart by war and grief and uncertainty. DiMaio has clearly done a great deal of research, and I loved watching a vivid portrait of life in the 1930s unfold on each page. I was entranced by her descriptions of clothes, and even more by the descriptions of food.I would absolutely recommend The Memory of Us. This book demonstrates the lengths that people will go to for love. DiMaio has done a wonderful job with characterization, and this is manifested in the smallest of gestures rather than some of the more overt actions. I found myself reading quickly because I was constantly in a state of anticipation, and needed to know what was going to happen next. I enjoyed The Memory of Us, and I am looking forward to reading more from Camille DiMaio.I received a copy of this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This book deserves more than a 5! This IS the BEST book I've read this year, and I've read over 25!! The twists and turns of Kyle and Julianne's lives is spellbinding. The author fills the book with history, romance, compassion and so much more! A perfect 10!!!!!

This book is a gorgeous, decades-spanning epic that explores the relationship of a wealthy Protestant girl and a working class Catholic man who is bound for the priesthood. The story of Julianne and Kyle does not lead where you might expect it will. It's actually based on a true story and has twists that you may not believe but are true - and truth being stranger than fiction - let me tell you, the truth of this book will absolutely break your heart. Then mend it again. And restore your faith in love.Julianne and Kyle are products of their day, time, and religions. They are bound by the limits imposed on them. And even though they battle and rebel against those expectations, the ideas of what is best and right constrain their actions. You can feel the impending doom coming. It is excruciating and at the same time, delicious.It is truly heartbreaking, to watch this young love put through the wringer, but Di Maio's elegant writing, savvy time jumps, and attention to detail carry you through to the very end. She is skilled and knows how to deftly pace a story. You will feel a connection to the characters, even the not-so-sympathetic ones, by the end of the novel, and you will wish with all your heart for love to win.Don't fret. It will.

As a youth of 18, Ernest Hemingway was eager to fight in the Great War. Poor vision kept him out of the army, so he joined the ambulance corps instead and was sent to France. Then he transferred to Italy where he became the first American wounded in that country during World War I. Hemingway came out of the European battlefields with a medal for valor and a wealth of experience that he would, 10 years later, spin into literary gold with A Farewell to Arms. This is the story of Lieutenant Henry, an American, and Catherine Barkley, a British nurse. The two meet in Italy, and almost immediately Hemingway sets up the central tension of the novel: the tenuous nature of love in a time of war. During their first encounter, Catherine tells Henry about her fiancé of eight years who had been killed the year before in the Somme. Explaining why she hadn't married him, she says she was afraid marriage would be bad for him, then admits: I wanted to do something for him. You see, I didn't care about the other thing and he could have had it all. He could have had anything he wanted if I would have known. I would have married him or anything. I know all about it now. But then he wanted to go to war and I didn't know. The two begin an affair, with Henry quite convinced that he "did not love Catherine Barkley nor had any idea of loving her. This was a game, like bridge, in which you said things instead of playing cards." Soon enough, however, the game turns serious for both of them and ultimately Henry ends up deserting to be with Catherine. Hemingway was not known for either unbridled optimism or happy endings, and A Farewell to Arms, like his other novels (For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Sun Also Rises, and To Have and Have Not), offers neither. What it does provide is an unblinking portrayal of men and women behaving with grace under pressure, both physical and psychological, and somehow finding the courage to go on in the face of certain loss. --Alix Wilber

I have never written an Amazon review before, but that is because I have never been so disappointed. That is because Amazon appears to have started using a different publisher for this book just at the beginning of this month, but kept all of the reviews and ratings from the previous publisher. This copy is absolute TRASH. The typeset is so terrible that it renders the book practically unreadable. They literally cut some words off in the middle and then print them in the middle of the next page. Some paragraphs are segmented into a number of chunks that follow no rhyme or reason. Not to mention the numerous typos throughout. I simply do not understand how this is acceptable.(Note: At the time of this review, the publisher is currently listed as: Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (March 3, 2018) )

Ernest Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms" is one of the books I have re-read the most throughout my life, along with Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises," Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" and "Under Western Eyes" and Joyce's "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man." In many ways, it is to me, as 'perfect' as any novel I have ever read. Its structure is flawless, the characters unforgettable, and the writing is bold and terse, hard and yielding all at the same time. I never fail to learn something new each time I read this wonderful work of art. If I was to teach a class on how to write a novel, this would be the book I would assign to my class.The Hemingway Library Edition of "A Farewell to Arms" I received as a gift also came with an Appendix that included the thirty-nine other endings Hemingway considered for the novel. Many are quite telling and a two were used in the serialized versions that appeared in Scribner magazines before the actual publication of the book. I simply love this book.

This is my favorite novel. I am a huge fan of Hemingway's "Never use a large word, where a simple word will work," writing style. If you're unfamiliar with this, take a look inside to see what I mean. The style is slow, and relatively uneventful.This is not a book for children. They could read it, but would perhaps miss many of the main themes. There is certainly rampant alcohol-use throughout the book.I love the book because Hemingway won't give the reader the ending they're expecting. He forces the reader to consider the the book over and over again. I may be simply written, and not for the Shakespearean-read scholar, but enjoyable and steady.

While I have read the story before and it is amazing, this book was an absolute waste of money. I spent the money expecting to get the entire book yet I only received half as if the publisher decided I can do this and sell a lot more. There we multiple typos too many to count. The final issue was there were no page numbers. after buying this book for a college course I was disappointed that this was a waste of time and money. I would recommend looking for a pdf copy off of Google or perhaps go to your local library it is much more useful than buying this particular group.

Though retired now and with all the books I have read it occurred to me that the only Hemmingway I had tried was an audio of Old Man And The Sea. Across The River and Into the Trees’ appeared to be a good place to start, it was. The introduction by Acino Acinonyx almost made me put this Kindle version away for a later time both because it was apparent nobody had read the introduction, corrected the flaws made during conversion, or checked the facts, which were very often wrong and contradictory. Skip that part, it isn’t worth your time.As for the novel itself, I enjoyed it. It is more about the characters than any deep story but the plot twists move you along at a decent pace. I had read about Hemmingway’s “ice berg” style, which is very interesting, but what really appealed to me is how this ebbed and flowed without the drastic actions found in many of our current day novels. As a writer I know that that isn’t an easy thing to do. I also know that today’s writers often focus on the story while Hemmingway’s characters become real, you know them well by the end of the book.I’m not saying that the current crop of writers are bad, Hemmingway is just different and different from the old “classic” authors in that this is not a series of scenes which may or may not be related. He strips out side stories and keeps you moving though you are not sure to where.I highly recommend you read this, especially if you are a writer and even if you have read Hemmingway before without satisfaction. This is a very good read.

Ernest Hemingway really was a great writer. His plain-spoken style is symbolic of the main character's values, as well as his own.This novel will shred you to pieces. Hemingway was trying to communicate a specific emotion with this novel -somewhere between hope, hopelessness, and numbness- and he really achieves it. Behind this novel is the plain and constant shock of modern warfare, and the strange way that affects men's minds, for better or worse.Beautiful novel. A pillar in modern literature on the rite of manhood.

Mari J. Wirfs, PhD, MN, APRN, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, CNE, is a nationally certified adult nurse practitioner (ANCC) and family nurse practitioner (AANP). She has over 45 years of experience in collegiate undergraduate and graduate nursing education and clinical practice in critical care, pediatrics, psychiatric-mental health nursing, and 25 years experience in advanced practice primary care nursing. Her PhD is in Higher Education Administration and Leadership. During her career Dr. Wirfs has achieved the academic rank of professor with tenure in two university systems. She served eight years in the Army Nurse Corps. Dr. Wirfs has completed, published, and presented six quantitative research studies focusing on nursing education and clinical practice, including one for the Army Medical Department. Presently, she is Adjunct Professor and Clinical Director and sole advanced practice (APRN) primary care provider at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Family Health Care Clinic. Dr. Wirfs also is a frequent guest lecturer to both professional APRN groups and community groups and a long-time member of the National Organization for Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF).
