I had seen some similar style animals to crochet in a craft catalog. The kits are $20 each plus about $6 shipping. Wow. Then add all your hours work..... When I saw this I thought I'd give it a try. It has such a wonderful selection of well designed, thought out animals! The instructions are easy to follow providing you already know how to crochet. If you're a beginner, you're going to be flipping back and forth in the book to refer back to the instructions on the stitches that are used. So, (how to)stitch instructions are included along with the instructions for each individual critter. I wouldn't suggest this book for a beginner, but rather for someone who knows the basic stitches and can read (clear, concise) instructions. It's better than a kit because it's less expensive per critter and you can choose any yarn you like. That allows for creativity. :)

So far I have completed one animal (the monkey) and started a second (the giraffe). Overall I really like this book so far, instructions are easy to follow and the animals actually turn out similar to the pictures. The reason I gave it a 4 star is for two reasons. 1) It tells you to stuff the pieces close to the end of making them, thankfully I read ahead or I may not have been able to get all the pieces stuffed without having to use a crochet hook or something smaller to shove the filing in, because some of the pieces are pretty narrow. 2) Instructions on how to attach limbs/ears/eyes/etc. are not very specific so you kind of have to look at the pictures and make your best guess.Finally I want to make a note of size, I found the animals to be smaller than I expected. Overall great book!

I love this book! So easy to read the pattern and I've already made 3 of the so cute Amigurumi animals and I'm on my 4th!

I highly recommend this pattern book. The animals are absolutely beautiful. The colors are vibrant and the details are great. Easy to read instructions and many photos of each of the animals to show you all the detailing. Well put together pattern book.

Patterns are very well written but had to give 3 star for fact that none of the patterns tell you where exactly to place eyes. The eBook only contains one picture per pattern so very hard to go by that and I reached out to Annie's crochet for help and was told could not help me !

another book that I got from the library that I instantly knew that I needed. I am just getting into Amigurumi and this book has some great projects in it. Can;t wait to get started, very well written.

I bought this book for the teddy bears, I ended up making them ALL!The patterns are clearly written and directions are easy to follow.They only take a few hours (5-6 total for me to make and assemble). The finished products are actually larger than I expected which was nice.These were fun to make and would be great to a beginner crocheter

Gifts for grandbabies and they are super. Directions were understandable and very good. I recommend it for others.

I had been waiting two years to read this graphic novel; along with Gerard Way's first Graphic Novel, The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite. I picked up the first novel at a small comic books store in downtown Chicago. Let's just say that it was pricey, much too expensive for the content that I was provided. The first novel blew me away, it is in short a literal work of art. The story line fascinating. The art work captivating. My interest had been continually peaked. I finally got to see inside the mind of the man behind the music I had been listening to since 2001. I fell in love with both graphic novels, and I am looking foreword to purchasing his second comic set, The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

Much like the first six books, these stories will frustrate you like your pesky younger brother...you’ll love them anyway. I absolutely love these characters and to see them finding their definition of family, no matter how screwed up, is powerful. Read it. You know you want to. Just read it. Now.

I really enjoyed Umbrella Academy and the True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys series. This Umbrella Academy is just as good, the characters are clever, Gerard Way is an interesting and talented comic book writer. I'm also loving the new Doom Patrol that he's writing.

this can honestly probably be read without the context of the first book. don't expect too much backstory, as both this and the first story will leave you with more questions than answers. the art is great and the story is great. you get what you pay for. but don't expect a whole lot of lore to the characters or their motives to be laid out. you kinda have to fill in the blanks yourself. all that said, likable characters, good dialogue and art, and interesting story. probably more a 3.5 out of 5 but they don't give you that option so 4 out of 5 it is.

Amazing graphic novel... The only negative I have is with the seller, I received the book with a large crease down the middle of the cover of a new book or what should have been a new book, it looks like it may have been read...

the fantastic continuation of the first volume! captivating writing by Gerard Way (with a few sneaky MCR references for fans...) and stunning art by Gabriel Bá. This isn't a a stereotypical superhero story; there are lots of anecdotes that show the rawest moments of the characters and what made them who they are today. This really drew me in (buh dum tss), and i finished the whole thing in one school day (whoops...). a definite buy!!!

Such an odd turn from the previous volume, but so much better than expected. Gerard Way is incredibly talented as a writer, something I would have never seen coming, and makes this series a great book to get into.

Great stories, complex characters and relationships, beautiful art. I dig this series and I'm glad to see it's being revisited!

Great map of Hampton Roads area. Used it almost every day while looking for houses and/or apartments. Better overview than you can get on the GPS in the car. I just wish the local maps of Norfolk and Virginia Beach more little streets.It does show the roads around Back Bay, though, where there is great Crappie and Bass fishing.

Have these in our car get-home-bags in case a solar flare or wimp knock out cell phones and google maps are inaccessible. Trusty paper back up map to navigate with

My parents were visiting the area and we couldn't find a paper map anywhere! Ordering it online saved a lot of hassle.

Computer maps fail to show you how to recover when you make a wrong turn. One needs a paper map for that.

What a great book ! I've been thinking about how HR is never put into it's proper perspective in many facets of a business and this book tells it like it is. It's a world that rewards the best companies that have the best employees. So if you are not putting your thoughts into how you can develop or recruit the best people, you are behind the curve, BIG TIME. This book certainly is appropriate for bigger companies but you can apply the overall themes to any size business. You may be the whole C-suite, but this CHRO hat you wear is very important too. Great stuff !

This is a very solid introductory textbook on both functional programming and Haskell as a language, and probably among the better ones on either topic -- with the caveat that I haven't read through everything that's on the market, including Bird's own prior textbooks.The text reads smoothly, and is far less dry than Hutton's. This is not necessarily something you're looking for in a textbook, but I found this to be a pleasant departure from the common practice.The approach taken here is heavy on equational reasoning, and the author is not afraid to delve into topics often perceived as arcane -- such as performance optimization of Haskell programs. The book does shy away from discussing rigorous methods for establishing asymptotic complexity under lazy evaluation, but that's probably a good thing in an introductory textbook, and you'd want to refer to Okasaki's PFDS or somesuch for the gory details anyway. Overall, the book takes more of a computer science-y approach, which I find to be slightly preferrable to the alternative "let's start hacking and think about getting out of the mess later" route, though some clever combination of the two might be superior to either.Another win is that the fairly elaborate exercises come with full solutions by the author, printed at the end of each chapter. This makes Thinking Functionally superbly suited for self-study, but probably makes it less appropriate as a basis for a course at a brick-and-mortar school.The book seems to expect a certain degree of mathematical maturity, and may be moving too fast for people without a couple of years of CS, math, EE or similar experience under their belt.I have fairly lukewarm feelings about the book's occasional tendency to borrow features from the future without explaining those, but this doesn't seem like an oversight on the author's part, and more of a principled approach along the lines of "you don't need to understand the details right now, we'll get there eventually, but for now just trust me." I cannot attest whether this works for the target audience or not, as I was fairly familiar with most of the material covered already.Lastly -- and this something of a pet peeve of mine -- I really rather hate the idea of discussing folds without even mentioning unfolds, but oh well. Let's face it, that's all too common anyway, and people live with it somehow. This is just about the only point where Hutton's book does win over Thinking Functionally.

This book is an important landmark in the evolution of Haskell and functional programming.When we speak of “functional” programming, we’re talking about mutation free computation: you can create all the new state you want; but you can’t mutate any existing state.This has a number of advantages that don’t fall on deaf ears these days: one is that mutation free computations are automagically thread safe; which is music to the ears of anyone that’s had to grapple with threading, concurrency, or parallel programming issues.However, another (perhaps more important consideration) is that when we don’t have mutation to worry about, we are free to do substitutions, and manipulate functions (a.k.a. “code”) in algebraic-like ways; and that is the focus of this book. Richard Bird is one of the pioneers of using equational reasoning to refactor existing code and to prove that one code expression is equivalent (or not equivalent) to a different code expression (wherein we are perhaps interested in reliability or improving performance without sacrificing semantic meaning). Or, to prove what a code expression really means; and to thereby be able to generalize it or otherwise reason about it.If you are new to seeing code manipulated in algebraic-like ways, it can seem like black magic until one gets acclimated to thinking about code in a purely functional way; and Haskell, as a programming language, is uniquely suited to that task.This book claims to be a replacement for other works, but it does not cover some material that was covered in past books which I consider very worthwhile.In the way of disclosure I want to mention that I read this book cover to cover (including the index); but did not do any of the exercises (other than to read through them). I also read the following cover to cover: “Introduction to Functional Programming using Haskell second edition” (Bird) and “Algebra of Programming” (Bird, De Moor); both of which I thought were outstanding.One criticism I have of this book is that in the last chapter’s concluding remarks, a pure functional style is recommended over monadic programming (especially when there is no concern about interacting with the outside world). That left me wanting more elaboration: there are many uses of monads; one being to “lift” partial functions to more sophisticated total counterparts (i.e. Maybe). Is there a “purely” functional equivalent for such purposes that is preferable to monads; or is that use of monads perfectly reasonable? (I presume the latter, but would have liked more discussion on the matter.) Also I would have liked to see more examples of how monadic programming can cause difficulties for equational reasoning that can be removed by refactoring to a more purely functional style. A past book did grapple with some negative aspects of monads (like the way they can cause problems when trying to compose them and enforce a coherent order in how things get evaluated). More material on the “sin bin” nature of monads and their potential overuse would be nice.Another comment: I missed the material on bignums; albeit I think the approach taken in a prior publication was flawed because it didn’t “normalize” numbers from least significant (in head position) to most significant (which makes everything much harder, IMO).I hope to see a sequel to this book as the author’s understanding (and the topic itself) evolve.

Superb and unique introduction, but not for beginners.It shows you what is THE functional programming, but doesn't teach you how to do it.Decent and inspiring, and not explaining much.Anyway, You should read it. It tells you things which you wouldn't hear anywhere else.But the problem is "What Next?". Yeah, There is no royal road.

This is a very difficult book to read, physically. The publisher has chosen such thin inexpensive paper that printing from the reverse side of the page -always- intrudes (in reverse black blobs) on every single page you're trying to read. This is very distracting and makes the book a trial to read. It's a shame that Cambridge University Press has chosen such a cheap-skate route because it's clear this book has much to offer. And just for a few pennies. Shame.
