My only complaint is that I wish it had wider margins for notes, --we Catholics never get that right!For $22.14 you get:1) A leather-bound Bible which lays nice and flat for easy reading.2) Sewn Binding.3) Two red quality ribbons that are NOT too short.4) Light/Somewhat cream-colored & Gold-edged pages with minimal page bleed.5) A very nice double-columned format with chapter titles.6) Nine maps which include:1. The Nations of Genesis Chapter 102. The Exodus from Egypt3. The Conquest of Canaan4. The Kingdom Years5. Jerusalem - From David to Christ6. Palestine in Christ's Time7. The language is also more up to date (being the RSVCE edition), but in a way that more clearly reflects the rich beautiful texts of scripture as compared to the New American Bible. “Images of Grace” is a beautifully illustrated coloring book by artist, Jacqui Grace. Ms. Grace has created lovely Christian greeting cards along with this publisher for close to ten years. In this book, she has created some wonderful coloring opportunities which speak to the spirit as well as to the imagination. I didn't realize until after receiving the book that the title is a bit of a play on the artist's name. I think it has a dual meaning and is speaking about God's Grace as well.I will provide details below, but as an overview this is what I have found in this coloring book:designs are printed on both sides of heavyweight papersome designs spread across two pagespages are not perforatedglue bindingimages merge into the bindingalcohol based markers bleed through pagewater based markers and Pitt India ink pens leave shadowssome gel pens take longer to drycoloring pencils work great with this paperI am always happy to find beautifully made Christian coloring books. In this book, there are verses (from the New King James Version of the Bible) generally on the left hand page while the illustration is on on the right hand page.The verses have light illustrations or may have a type of complete this activity to them. In addition to these style designs, there are 29 full page designs and 12 designs that spread across two pages but a number of these are repetitive type designs that I am less likely to color immediately and would be willing to forgo depending on what is one the back of the page and which coloring medium I will use.The artist has some excellent suggestions for using the coloring book for part of your worship time: Think about the words in the designs and mull over whether God is speaking to you through them. Memorize some of the verses and/or look them up in other translation. Pray as your color. Add your own quotes, thoughts, etc on pages where there is blank space. (My suggestion – offer prayers in these spots – maybe pouring out what is troubling you that day.) Share your creations.The designs in the book are printed on both sides of heavyweight, non-perforated white paper. On the two pages spreads, my book is aligned perfectly. Many of the designs have light illustrations or verses on the back side.The binding is glued rather than sewn so you will have to cut out pages if you want to remove them. Many designs merge into the binding and you will lose portions if you cut them out. I was able to get the book to lay flat by pressing on the inside of the binding. This “breaks” the spine (i.e. creases it.)I test all of my coloring books with the various coloring mediums I work with. I will provide the list I used for this book in the comments section below, you are interested. My tests showed these results:All alcohol-based markers bleed through the paper quite easily. All water-based markers and Pitt India Ink pens leave some shadows on the back of the page. Gel pens did not bleed through or show shadows but all brands I tested, except Uni-ball Signo pens, required extra drying time. Coloring pencils worked fantastic. The soft lead pencils went on thick with little effort and blended beautifully. My hard lead pencils went on darker than usual and I was able to blend those as well. The hard lead pencils did not leave a dent on the back of the page. If you choose to use markers, there is a good chance you will mar the back of the page you are working on and ruin that designs. Be sure to use a blotter page below your work so the ink seeping through is limited only to the back of that page.I am really looking forward to spending a lot of time with this coloring book. Most Christian coloring books are not quite as well made as this one, so it will be a pleasure to color in. I'm yet sure if I will remove pages or not. I will certainly be using my coloring pencils in the book and will decide about other mediums depending on what is on the back of the page I want to color.

I am obsessed with adult coloring books - they're just the ideal way to unwind after a busy day. They're also a cool way to BEGIN a day. You can sort of glide into your day over coffee and that beats hurrying around any day! This particular book is one of the most beautiful ones I've ever seen. The hand-drawn illustrations and words throughout are somehow comforting and stimulating at the same time. This one is a must have.

I own several coloring books and this one is my favorite. The paper is a nice weight, but I do wish that the images were only printed on one side of the page. Perforated pages, or at least stopping the image before it bumps up against the binding would also be nice. However, I love the images and the way they are combined with the scripture versus so if I want to use both sides of the page, I guess I'll just buy another copy.

Beautiful book. Nice, thick paper. Pictures that are large enough to color and enjoy. We have loved this book.

Charlie Hernández and the League of Shadows was a fun read! I really enjoyed seeing the Latinx and Hispanic mythological creatures on the page, many of whom I'd heard while growing up Colombian. I'm incredibly drawn to these stories and often write about them, so it was a pleasant surprise finding this book. My son enjoyed the adventure and the myths, too, and we're both looking forward to book 2!

This book feels like a Hispanic version of Harry Potter. The same detail, research, and passion can be found in Charlie’s world. Everything, down to the glossary in the back of the book, immerses you in a rich culture that helps the story feel like it could be your own. Having grown up in the same hometown as Charlie, it was so fun and exciting to have a character that I could identify with culturally. Charlie and I even went to the same school! This book and story is definitely one that everyone can enjoy, no matter what background they may come from, or what age they are. Everyone in my family has a copy and loves it - from my own Abuela to my kids. It’s an escape into a whole new world that I never wanted to end and I already can’t wait to read it again. Part 2 please? (...and then 3, 4, 5...)

This is a perfect book for the entire family, it gives you a window into a world of folklore, mythology and heritage, and opens the door into a whole new perspective and multi-cultural appreciation. It crosses generations, and best of all cultivates new seeds of curiosity for both young and even older (wiser) family members. When Charlie's world suddenly becomes a new reality, it's nonstop adventure. Charlie and Violeta will have you holding your breath in every turn, and keep you flipping the page on over drive. Calejo and his mighty pen are quite the duo, light like a feather, but can sting like a bee. I highly recommend it.

Bought this book for my school age child but read it as well and genuinely enjoyed it !!! I couldn’t wait to see what would happen to Charlie next! I loved the details in the book, in particular the descriptions of Miami and it’s street. I could “see” Charlie and Violet riding their bikes along all those recognizable streets. But most of all I enjoyed how all the Hispanic myths were woven into the story and came to life with a modern, multicultural twist. I think this a great book for kids — exciting but not too scary, fast- paced with a fun ending and perhaps with a future “book 2”... ??? I have a feeling we haven’t seen the end of “La Cuca”!!Highly recommend this book— kids of all ages will enjoy it (mine cannot put it down)!

My 10 year old loved this book. He is eagerly awaiting a sequel. It does have some scary content so it might normally be best for kids a little older. He is in 4th grade and reads at a 7th or 8th grade level. He is soaking up all the fantasy type stuff he can get his hands on right now, and this book was a great addition.

This book is an excellent read for all ages - it really transports you into the story!! I highly recommend and can't wait for the next installment! Also, I am very proud to be supporting a local Hispanic author from Miami. He has great storytelling ability - you won't regret reading this book!

Charlie and the League of Shadows truly captured what I, as a Cuban American, experienced growing up and reminded me of the wonderful stories that my own grandmother would share with me as a child. This adventure story captivated me.

I purchased this book for my cousin and she loved it! She finished it in three days. Loved it!

Beware...this might be a great book as a supplementary reading text, but only if you are actually taking a standard class with a teacher present to help you..those out there trying to self-study will find this book a frustrating waste of money....there are no translations of the reading material, just vocabulary listings and comments about what is interesting about the selections. So those studying on your own would have a very hard time knowing if you had translated the passages correctly or not. This does not appear to be a book for the self-learner...with nothing to help you confirm that you know accurately what is being written, you will not make very much progress...I plan to return the book to Amazon...

This great teaching tool is basically a collection of authentic Latin graffiti, epitaphs, inscriptions, and letters etc., many found in the Pompeii area, and range from humorous or vulgar, to romantic, to poetic or thoughtful. With the grammatical clues and vocabulary given you are tasked with translating them, much like solving a puzzle. This is also plenty of sentences to translate, a very useful appendix, and even some photos of the sites. This can be used along with Wheelock's Latin or as a companion to it. I can honestly say this is my favourite Latin book, and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys puzzles or the thrill of feeling like an archaeologist. "Carthago delenda est !"

The Kindle version is not good. Any letters with an accent and a macron are images rather than text. This means they look different on the screen (using my ipad with Kindle app). It also means you can't copy and paste into notes because the letters that are images are not copied. It's not unreadable, but it's distracting. I'm getting the paperback instead.

Many beginning students have found themselves agreeing with main character in Kingsley Amis's comic novel, Lucky Jim, regarding yet another assignment to translate Cicero: "that for a man so long and so thoroughly dead it was remarkable how much boredom Cicero could generate."Professor Richard A. LaFleur's Scribblers, Sculptors and Scribes provides a superb alternative or adjunct to classic Latin with well chosen passages from the graffiti of Pompeii, "Paris hic Fuit" the perennial "Kilroy was here" or the gladiator as "the heartthrob of the girls" Susirium puellarum Celadus Thrcacus. A number of letters from the Vindolanda letters such as the famous birthday invitation by the wife of Roman Officer at fort near Hadrians wall are included, as well as examples of electoral programmata,campaigns and politics of Pompeii.LaFleur's text is nicely illustrated with well chosen images of graffiti, tomb inscriptions etc.

A great companion! My students are able to really engage with the snippets and scribbles despite being (currently) at a very rudimentary level. The beginning ones are extremely short and I could wish for more, but it provides good extra practice.

Nicely keyed to the Wheelock textbook. Good picture of street life in ancient Rome, but you still need Carcopino's "Daily Life in Ancient Rome ....". (Also on Amazon)
