Not only adorable but also quick and easy to use. This has everything for teaching multiplication and division within 100. I also love how they review all the strategies that help learn the operations. We also use the comics for bedtime stories. Fun and engaging! Well worth the money!

I absolutely needed these activities desperately for my kids! The problems are challenging and direct. Kids can work on their own to solve the problems, or it can be used as homework/individual activity. Great book for practicing multiplication facts! Aligns with standards perfectly!

It has been a challenge to find math workbook my daughter really loves to do. I needed something fun and engaging for multiplication practice. Wow! This includes so many math skills. A lot of coloring activities, mazes, and puzzles for a great price!

I have read many intro-to-programming books and this is one of the best. It gets you set up and programming fast, and ramps you up steadily. Before you know it, you'll be reading and writing to files and making fairly sophisticated text-based games.The book is very well designed, using tools that are real-world and programming projects that build on each other. You'll be programming using the full-featured Eclipse IDE, not a beginner's IDE that you'll quickly outgrow like BlueJ. The author provides very detailed instructions every step of the way, including the best introduction I've seen to get a beginner up an running using Eclipse. When you're ready to move on, you'll find graphic-based games and more advanced topics in the later books in the series.The writing style is clear without being too wordy. The author has clearly put a lot of effort into finding that perfect balance between saying just what is necessary without saying so much that you are overwhelmed with detail.This is the first time I've preferred the electronic version of a book (Kindle) over the paper version. It is very easy to learn from this with the Kindle open in one window while you're programming in another. And the book makes excellent use of hyperlinks. Each chapter keeps the technical details to a minimum, with hyperlinks to further discussion for those who want more detail.All in all this is an A+ introduction to programming.

I have used this book and the companion book More Do-It-Yourself Java Games twice in a course teaching non computer science majors to program. The students started with Do-It-Yourself Java Games and proceeded on to More Do-It-Yourself Java Games. The students loved the books and learned far more than in other courses I have taught at this level. I highly recommend these books to anyone wanting to learn Java programming and to anyone wanting to get students excited about computer science.This book, Do-It-Yourself Java Games, gives students an excellent background in Java programming. The games in this book are all text-based, but they are imaginative and fun. The students thoroughly enjoyed creating them. The tutorial approach worked extremely well in guiding the students along in learning programming. The students worked at their own pace with most progressing far into or completing the second book, which features games with Java Swing graphics and event-driven programming. I've never seen students get so excited by textbooks. I did virtually no teaching in the course. Instead, I worked one-on-one or in small group settings with students. During our four week January Term the course was scheduled to meet for two hours and forty-five minutes. Most students showed up fifteen to thirty minutes early and left thirty to forty-five minutes late.A number of the students have actually gone on to become computer science majors. These students have proven to have an excellent background for more advanced courses.I have taught introductory programming courses for many years. These are the best books I have ever used for getting students interested in and excited about computer programming. If someone wants to learn Java programming while having a lot of fun doing so, I strongly recommend Do-It-Yourself Java Games. To get into Java Swing graphics programming and have a lot of fun along the way, More Do-It-Yourself Java Games is a great way to go.

Ms. Godtland has written a great introductory book with Do-It-Yourself Java Games. I'm a beginning student and started programming in Python before jumping ship to Java around January 2017, so I've had some background in programming practices (loops, variables, and so on). Generally, my deciding consideration for programming books is the Table of Contents. With DIY Java Games, I specifically purchased the book for the last lesson/game - Crazy Eights. This last lesson is a capstone for all the code you wrote in the previous chapters and is a good model for how a complex program would (probably) work: you extend code in previously made classes and add complexity to the project you're building.I also like Ms. Godtland's approach of providing code snippets - while leaving blanks. This forces the student to either 1) recall past lessons or 2) flip to the back where the full code is available.What kept me from a 5-star rating is, really, a pretty minor issue and shouldn't preclude a completely new student from trying out the book. The online resource download includes the Java Swing window that all of the programs are based on. In other words, you don't have to program (from scratch) the window that you're running these programs in. On the one hand, this facilitates the basic education of the Java programming language (since you don't have to worry about programming a window and its loop). But, on the other, there isn't really a discussion of what is going on with the window, its components, the loop, and so on. Even if one isn't coding it, it would be beneficial to be introduced to what is below the hood.Still, this is a great book.

Great book. A true story of the importance of faith in God which can help overcome the gravest of evils and puts dealing with difficulties and troubles in perspective. He was true to God's command to love your enemies even after 23 years of hardship and persecution.Looking forward to reading the other book "He Leadeth Me".

I read this a month ago and am still reflecting on it. I am left with the impression that his strong character, his ability to work hard and his humility were as important as his faith in surviving his epic struggle and deprivations. A captor told him "I do not know why you are still alive." He was witness to massive upheaval, injustice and suffering. He suffered with millions of others. He gave what he could: spiritual guidance/solace, the example of perseverance and friendship. Remarkably, not bitter. A fascinating life.

This book was a fascinating account of an American's years in solitary confinement and Siberian slave labor camps. The author's perseverance and trust in God is compelling. Any time I reflect back on the book, I feel grateful for the many comforts I enjoy. This is a sure-fire cure to complaining!

This was a wonderful read. Inspiring moments. I couldn't put it down. Amazing in that he was able to withstand and live all those years in prison, gulag hard labor in Siberian winters, and throughout his ordeal he never lost his faith in God.

An amazing biography about an amazing man, who will one day be canonized. A great book for anyone interested, and all should be interested, in drawing closer to God and receive the unshakable peace that can only come from Him.

In this book, Battle delineates how he believes it can be a "gift to the West."Ubuntu is a difficult word to translate. It is a simple yet incredibly profound concept - that I am a person because I recognize others as persons, that we are all inextricably linked to one another and share a common humanity. Although it may ostensibly appear that there is some dissonance between Ubuntu and Western individualism, Battle argues that Ubuntu, which demands interdependence, paradoxically helps us express true individuality because "each individual's humanity is ideally expressed in relationship with others."So why is Ubuntu important? Battle argues that it "reorients our vision." He writes, "[w]e cannot see ourselves as primarily white people, black people, Irish people, women, men, low income, gay, conservative...we must learn to see self in the other." The paradigm of excessive narcissism, which appears pervasive in the West, is broken by Ubuntu. Ubuntu helps us see our own flaws and not merely the flaws of others. To substantiate these arguments, Battle retells Tutu's struggle against apartheid ("South Africa - black and white - can be human together and will defy tyranny only by first living together").Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Battle's book, but I should warn readers that it does come with one caveat: strong Anglo-Christian undertones. Although I myself am an Episcopalian, I found this to be a slight distraction. Readers who want to read a more secular and academic assessment of Ubuntu should read Battle's other book, Reconciliation: The Ubuntu Theology of Desmond Tutu.

A must read to understand the economy, in simple terms. I have taken economics in college, and of course, we have all heard bout the 'invisible hand' of the market, and the law of supply and demand, etc. etc., but for most of us, this does not really explain (or make sense, frankly) what is happening. Prof. Varoufakis explains the reality so we can understand the problem, and possibly, know the way to solve the problems that beset us. Ignorance is not bliss; we need real facts and knowledge, and we need to know who the enemy of financial freedom is and how we can get out from under. When we read economics as taught to most of us, we read about how if supply exceeds demand, then the pendulum swings so as to correct this, but what does that mean to real people depending on wages to live and exist in our society? We must understand that ours is a system that is set up to enrich the rich, and extract from the rest of us. Until we understand this and then get it changed we continue to be slaves to our system and those who make the rules.

Despite repeated attempts at self-education, I have remained a financial illiterate my whole adult life. Read any standard economics text and it will discuss supply curves and demand curves as if they were (usually linear) mathematical functions. Fine. Linear functions are easy to understand. The problem is that even these simple ideas don't give a true explanation of the economic world we lived in. Between May 19 and May 20, the demand for automotive fuels didn't really change, but the price will reliably take a jump. The slick, nearly mathematical texts just don't line up to reality---and you can take examples from almost anywhere. This is a clear book that gives a coherent introduction to the qualitative aspects of economics, something that any person could understand---even a financial illiterate. Is everything he says correct? I don't know. That's why I'm illiterate. Certainly it is not complete, but the ideas are coherent and give a reasonable foundation from which to begin to form a better understanding. This guy isn't the pompous idiot that most economists seem to be.

Varoufakis breathes life into the phrase, "if you can't explain something to a child, then you don't really understand it yourself" by turning it from a simple adage into practical application in this unambiguous book about capitalism and economics. His analogies and effort to make the reader understand the content instead of trying to patronizingly exert his knowledge over the reader makes this an engaging and very educational read.

Where was this guy when I was struggling to put my finger on what's wrong with the way economics is taught in U.S. colleges? The author provides fantastic historical perspective and excellent explanations of seemingly complex concepts in everyday language.

This is a great book that outlines how the economy works in pretty clear and simple terms. It was an enjoyable read and was interesting. Obviously, by the title, it was written with a young audience in mind, but anyone who doesn't have a lot knowledge about economics, but is interested in learning about it, would enjoy this book.

Brilliant book. Well written and fun to read which is a veritable accomplishment for a book on economics. Historical, mythological and literary references illuminate beautifully economic principles.

For me this book succeed in creating an introduction to the economics and how it is intertwined with our most pressing questions of the day.Even though I am teaching in an Asian country its questions and answers are equally relevant.

Best book to understand macroeconomics and the political economy of capitalism.
